Our Story
The Light Salon was founded by lifelong friends Laura Ferguson and Hannah Measures, united by a shared belief that light, in all its forms, has the power to transform how we look, feel, and live.
Where It All Began
Our friendship began in 1999, long before The Light Salon existed. We worked in the same advertising agency, discovering that our differences were exactly what made us work so well together. Laura was nurturing and intuitive, with a background in luxury beauty; Hannah was creative and curious, with an instinct for brand storytelling.
Years later, those differences would become the perfect foundation for a business built on LED light therapy, science, and care.
The Discovery of LED Light Therapy
In 2006, after decades of struggling with acne, Laura, then managing one of London’s most exclusive spas, discovered LED light therapy.
“It was the first thing that healed my skin without compromise,” Laura recalls. “It didn’t sting, strip, or dehydrate. It soothed and strengthened from within.”
The more she used LED on her clients, the more she saw its power: calmer complexions, softened scarring, reduced redness, and fine lines smoothed. It wasn’t just cosmetic - it helped skin function better.

The Friendship That Sparked a Beauty Revolution
“I was a stressed-out advertising exec,” says Hannah. “Laura used me as her guinea pig. If my skin could tolerate it, she knew it was safe for everyone.”
The results were undeniable, not just on the skin, but on the mind. Light had a calming, meditative effect. But LED facials were still rare and expensive.
In 2015, Laura and Hannah combined their expertise and creative vision to found The Light Salon, the UK’s first affordable, express LED facial bar.
“When we pitched the idea to Harvey Nichols, we didn’t have a salon yet,” Hannah remembers. “We invited the buyers to my Barbican flat, drank champagne, lit candles, and let Laura do what she does best. They signed us on the spot.”
From Salon to Global Beauty Tech
What began as a single treatment bar soon grew into a global LED skincare brand. After performing over 30,000 LED facials, client demand inspired the creation of BOOST, our at-home LED Face Mask and LED devices, delivering the same clinically proven wavelengths as our in-salon treatments.
BOOST LED quickly gained a cult following, with celebrity fans including Victoria Beckham and Alexa Chung, who both loved the brand for its skin-transforming results.
Today, The Light Salon is stocked in Liberty, Selfridges, John Lewis, and Bluemercury; found in Soho House spas across the UK and beyond; and trusted by skin professionals and beauty editors worldwide.
Light as a Way of Life
“LED has been my constant through IVF, menopause, and motherhood,” says Laura. “My family uses it for everything - my daughter’s bruised knees, my husband’s back, my parents’ joints. It’s not about fixing flaws; it’s about helping the body do what it’s meant to do - heal and renew.”
“For me,” adds Hannah, “it’s about resilience, countless challenges, but also deep friendship, laughter, and light. We’ve built something lasting because we lift each other up when it’s hard, and that’s what light does too.”
A decade on, we’re still learning - about skin, wellbeing, and endurance.
Our story lives on in The Light Journal, where we share reflections on LED light therapy, skin, and modern self-care.
