It’s well documented that UV rays account for 80 percent of skin aging, which is why it’s so important to not only wear sun cream but utilise products that support the skin against the sun.
What Does Sun Damage Mean For Your Skin
Sun damage on the face, neck, and chest doesn’t necessarily mean one thing. Damage can register as dark spots and pigmentation, it can leave behind acne, and even make your skin more sensitive.
Ingredients For Sun Damaged Skin
Certain ingredients can help calm and heal the skin, including:
Niacinamide helps to minimise dark spots and hyperpigmentation and reduce inflammation.
Gluconolactone a great ingredient to reduce marks left by acne. It also helps lighten any dark spots left by acne inflammation and importantly doesn’t cause skin sensitivity prior to sun exposure.
Topical retinol and retinoids, which are vitamin A derivatives, fight acne, reduce fine lines, unwanted pigmentation, and improves skin texture.
Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that stimulates collagen production and neutralises free radicals.
Alpha hydroxy acids, otherwise known as AHA’s, can also help reduce hyperpigmentation. With acids like glycolic and lactic, make sure to start by using once weekly and gradually increasing the frequency as tolerated.
