Why our face mask is also a skincare itemWe’ve experienced firsthand the effects of environmental stressors and harsh ingredients on the skin. As we adjust to our new normal, we’re finding that more and more our clients are recognising the physical influence of face masks. Think heat, friction, and bacteria build-up, which leads to irritation, congested pores, and breakouts (also known as maskne).
From maskne to skin irritation, our complexions and wellbeing have been impacted and finding the perfect face covering has been a struggle all on its own. So we took our learnings and feedback from our loyalists and chose a single layer mask coated with ViralOff® antimicrobial technology, that helps keep you safe, whilst protecting the fragile bottom half of the face.
To that end, our Antimicrobial Mask is the final step in your skincare routine. While it doesn’t guarantee immunity against viruses and is not a medical device, it helps reduce viral transmission and delivers breathability, skin comfort, antimicrobial technology, and environmental sustainability. Made from organic bamboo, which is known for its anti-inflammatory, hypoallergenic, and UV resistant properties, this mask technology helps maintain a cleaner fabric for longer, preventing cross-contamination and reducing frequent washing.
“We wanted to offer our clients the most skin-protective and comfortable mask that we could find, whilst also considering the environment,” says Laura Ferguson, our co-founder and LED expert. “The thought of all the plastic being used, due to PPE, is worrying, and we always try to do our bit and choose the most responsible options, both with our salon offering and our retail products.”
How to wear your antimicrobial face mask
Clients of The Light Salon wear the Antimicrobial Mask both alone or under their favourite face covering, depending on comfort level. “The masks are made from super lightweight, biodegradable Organic Bamboo Viscose and are treated with ViralOff®, a treatment of textiles that stops viral activity through interaction with key proteins,” adds Laura. “They are so gentle on the skin, which is one of the many reasons we love them.” Laura notes that the natural bamboo is grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or other chemical fertilisers, making it better for your health and the environment.
But it does even more than the aforementioned benefits. Our face mask goes beyond a daily shield. It directly aligns with our skin health mission, offering both at-home skincare support and post-treatment care. It provides protection against the cold and wind, it helps stop the spread of winter germs, it can be used in the summer to protect against harmful UV rays, and it offers
pollen protection and relief. It’s also ideal post-treatment as the cooling fabric helps to avoid exposure from UV light, and defends against bacteria, pollution and friction during the renewal stage.
The Antimicrobial Mask is also the perfect complement to our Cleanse & Recovery Spray to help tackle pore-clogging bacteria and fight inflammation. Either use on the face post-cleansing to calm any irritation and balance oil production or spritz onto skin, let it air dry, and apply the. mask. “We believe this mask demonstrates our ingenuity in identifying innovation and making it available to a mass market,” says our co-founder Hannah Measures, “whilst connecting it to our skin health and wellbeing mission.”
